Reconciling in Christ

Rooted in the Good News of Jesus Christ, First Lutheran Church welcomes people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions into the life and leadership of our congregation. We also accompany LGBTQ+ persons and their families in their daily lives and advocate with them in civil society. Our sanctuary and pastor are available for same-gender weddings. We also confess that we are still captive to the sins of homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and racism. We pray to God and follow Jesus as we work for racial equity, gender justice, and a beloved community for all.

The Reconciling in Christ program is a ministry of ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation. Since 1974, ReconcilingWorks has advocated for the full welcome, inclusion, and equity of LGBTQ+ Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their church, congregations, and community. Congregations and ministries that are designated as RIC are included in ReconcilingWorks’ online, searchable database and are also encouraged to display the RIC symbol (pictured above) in connection with their institution.

First Lutheran Church voted overwhelmingly to become a Reconciling in Christ member congregation at our February 2016 Annual Meeting. The Reconciling in Christ designation is a public affirmation of one piece of our FLC Welcome Statement: “whether you are male, female, or transgender, young or old, straight, gay, lesbian or bisexual, you are welcome here!”
