Mission and Service

he mission of First Lutheran Church, rooted in the Gospel of God’s grace, is to be a community of worship, witness, and spritual growth in ecumenical service to God and God’s people. Our worship spills out of the church into every area of our lives. Our workplaces, families and communities become venues where we can express our gratitude and faith. We are rooted in our history and work in the present for a better tomorrow.

Requests & Projects

The Social Concerns Committee is collecting donations for children of families in need.  Your contributions will be placed in an afternoon milk fund and will be distributed to children grades preschool through 4th grade.   A semester of milk for a preschooler and PreK is $18.00 and kindergarten through 4th grade is $22.50 any donation will be appreciated and may be dropped off at the church office or John Cline Schools.

The three kitchens throughout the church are in need of new linens, both towels and dishcloths. If you can donate some, it would be greatly appreciated. Most people refer the large white cotton towels that are sometimes embroidered. You can bring any donations directly to the marked drawers near the sinks in the main Fellowship Hall kitchen.

The Do Day quilters are in need of mattress pads, blankets, and colored sheets to be used as middles and backs for their quilts. Those items can be brought to the church office.

The Social Concerns Committee is embarking on a new project called “Noah’s Ark”. We request that stuffed animals of all kinds (new or gently used) be donated and placed in the receptacle basket in the Fellowship Hall. These stuffed animals are being gathered and will be given to children served by Helping Services.  This will be a continuing effort carried out by the Social Concerns Committee.

COMMUNITY GARDEN FOR THE FOOD PANTRY
There is a collaborate effort that has been put together by members of the First United Methodist and First Lutheran to plant a community garden plot that would provide fresh summer produce for the Food Shelf.  We need help preparing the plot, planting, watering, weeding and then harvesting the food that will be the reward for our efforts.  Please call if you can help, Jenny Werner 387-6770.

Meals on Wheels
First Lutheran Church provides drivers to deliver Meals on Wheels for April, May and June each year. If you would like to deliver meals for a week (or part of a week) next year please call Diane Grimstad. It takes approximately 1 hour to deliver each day.
