December 6 - Decorah Chorale Concert

The Decorah Chorale will present their 10th annual “Home for Christmas” benefit concert for Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity TONIGHT, December 6th at 7:00 pm at Decorah Lutheran Church.  Free will offerings will be accepted.


December 16 - Christmas Poinsettias Sale ends

Poinsettias are available for the Christmas season.  These may be in memory of, honor of, or simply as a gift.  The cost is $11.00 including tax. This is for a multi-bloom 6” poinsettia dressed up with gold foil and a white bow. Poinsettias may be purchased through the church office prior to Wednesday, December 16th.  Poinsettias may be picked up following the Christmas Day service.

Interested in exploring the relationship of music and conscience in the lives and works of J.S. Bach and Dietrich Bonhoeffer?  Join a Luther College Study Tour to Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden and Prague June 9-21, 2010.  Led by Jim and Karen Martin-Schramm and Gregory Peterson and Ann Sponberg Peterson. Decorah Area Faith Community Hosts Immigration Reform Dialogue with Elected Officials, Community and Faith Leaders

Senator Harkin's Office, Community and Faith Leaders, Immigrant Families to Discuss Urgent Need for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

"Breaking Bread and Barriers," sponsored by the Decorah Area Faith Coalition, is part of The Month of Action, a nationwide effort led by people of faith calling on their elected officials to enact comprehensive and humane immigration reform this year.

WHAT: "Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers" community potluck and town hall meeting with elected officials, religious and community leaders dialoguing regarding comprehensive and humane immigration reform that reflects our faith-informed values.

WHO: Sen. Tom Harkin – invited (A full list of confirmed speakers and special guests will be announced the first week of November)

Nov 8 to Nov 13 - Alpha Sigma Pie Sale

Alpha Sigma, a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, has begun its annual Homemade Pie Sale from now until November 13th.  Prices are $6 for pumpkin and $8 for pecan.  To place a pie order, contact Deb at (563) 380-4373 or Nikki at (563) 380-2783. 

Proceeds will benefit Joshua Sande of Decorah.  Joshua is 16 months old and was born with a disorder known as Short Bowel Syndrome.  Joshua and his family continue to incur many expenses for Joshua’s treatment and doctor’s visits. 

To further support Joshua, Alpha Sigma will also be accepting free-will donations, and holding a drawing for three Thanksgiving Dinners.  To enter the free-will donation drawing for one of the three turkey dinner grocery prizes (donated by Quillins of Decorah) contact Deb or Nikki at the numbers above.

Prize winners will be notified the week of November 16, 2009.  Pie orders may be picked up at Decorah Lutheran Church basement on November 25th, noon – 6 p.m. 

November 22 - Northern Lights Concert

Northern Lights, a women’s singing group made up of volunteers from NE IA and SE MN, presents a concert called Cornucopia of Song on Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street in Decorah.  Jane Kolarich conducts and Linda Gjerdrum accompanies the singers.  Guest artists are the Quintessence Woodwind Quintet.  A free will offering will be accepted.  Doors open at 1:30PM.

Nov 16th to Dec 4th - Social Concerns Star Tree

A Star Tree located in the Fellowship Hall will be decorated with stars beginning November 16th.  If you and your family choose to select a star from the tree please purchase the gift, wrap it and attach the star to the gift on the outside of the package. Please return the packages to the Church Office by December 4th.  The gifts will be distributed prior to Christmas.  If you have any questions please contact Joanne Vine 382-3790.
